A power of attorney to export a vehicle authorises one named person to act for you on one named vehicle that is going out of the country. Under UAE law anything beyond management and preservation needs a special agency that specifies the act, so each act has to be written out.

Why a vehicle export power of attorney reads differently
Most vehicle deeds in Dubai sit between two people who both stay put. A buyer takes the car, the seller hands over the keys, and the record moves from one name to another inside the country. An export deed does not end that way. The vehicle stops being registered here and physically leaves, so the authority you give has to reach past the desk work and cover the handover.
People who ask for a power of attorney to export a vehicle are usually already out of the country, or are leaving within weeks and cannot stay for the paperwork. Somebody here has to take the vehicle off the record in your name, collect whatever the authorities issue, and pass it to the carrier. That person needs a deed that says all of it in words, not one that says deal with my car.
What the authority has to cover for an export
Article 870 of Federal Decree-Law 25/2025 asks for a special agency specifying the type of act and the dispositions it entails. Nothing in the statute sets out an export checklist, so the six points below are drafting judgement resting on that article.
- One vehicle and one vehicle only, with every number copied from the ownership certificate rather than from a message, including the chassis and the plate details.
- Cancellation of the registration held in your name, written as an act of its own rather than folded into a general permission to deal with the vehicle.
- Applying for, receiving and signing for whatever documents the relevant authorities issue for a vehicle that is going out of the country.
- Handing the vehicle, the keys and the documents to a carrier or to a named person, if you want your agent to make that handover.
- Whether your agent may pay charges on your behalf, and whether any refund or deposit comes back to them or straight to you.
- The end date, and whether your agent may put somebody else in their place, because an agency runs only for the term written into it.
Two ways people scope an export authority
Decide before drafting how far your agent goes. One version stops at the paperwork. The other follows the vehicle to the point where it is handed over.

Tell us what has to happen to the vehicle
Send the vehicle ownership certificate, your own identity document, and the full name and identity number of the person acting for you. Tell us in plain words where the vehicle is going and who will physically move it, because that decides whether handover belongs in the deed.

We check the ownership record first
Before anything is drafted we read the ownership certificate and confirm the name on it is yours. If a bank or a finance company sits on that record, the deed has to be built around what you actually hold, and we tell you that at the start rather than at the notary counter.

We draft in Arabic and arrange the translation
The instrument is drafted in Arabic. Under Article 27 of Dubai Law 4 of 2013 a foreign language version is allowed only with an Arabic translation by a certified translator, with both versions signed. Dubai Courts asks for legal translation approved by the Ministry of Justice. You read it before anything is booked.

Ratification, then the deed goes to your agent
The ratification is carried out before a notary public. Ratification is done by a notary public, and in Dubai notaries public sit under Dubai Courts, which attests the signatures of the parties and verifies capacity and eligibility by personal or virtual attendance. We prepare the file and come with you, then the ratified deed goes to your agent.
You cannot authorise a vehicle that is not yours
An agency passes on authority you already have. If the ownership record for the vehicle names a bank or a finance company, that party is the owner on the record, and nobody can authorise what they do not own. A deed drafted as though you owned the vehicle outright will not change the record. If you are signing outside the UAE
The UAE is not an apostille country.
- Executed before an accredited UAE consul, or a local notary
- The issuing country’s foreign ministry attests it next
- Then the UAE embassy or consulate in that country
- Then MOFAIC inside the UAE. Keep it unlaminated
The gaps that stop an export deed working
The first list is what we see go wrong. The second is what we read back to you before the appointment.
- A single line authorising the agent to export my car, with no act named. Article 871 leaves a generally worded agency with acts of management only.
- Cancellation of the registration left out, so the agent can move the vehicle but cannot take it off the record in your name.
- A chassis number or a plate number that does not match the ownership certificate digit for digit.
- Each act written out on its own line, including the handover if you want that covered.
- One spelling of your name across the deed, the passport and the ownership certificate.
- An end date, and a note of what your agent may do if the shipment is delayed.

Is a power of attorney needed to export a vehicle from the UAE?
We do not state that as a rule. The transport and customs requirements are set by the authorities involved and have to be checked with them. What a power of attorney does is put a named person in your place, so somebody can deal with the vehicle and its record when you cannot be there yourself.
Can one deed cover selling the vehicle and exporting it?
It can, but the acts have to be listed separately. Article 870 of Federal Decree-Law 25/2025 requires a special agency specifying the type of act and the dispositions it entails, and it names sale among them. Writing sale and leaving export to inference gives your agent half the job.
What if the vehicle record shows a bank or a finance company?
Then that party is the owner on the record, and you cannot authorise what you do not own. A deed written as though the vehicle were yours outright will not move the record. Can the agent hand the vehicle over to a shipping company?
Only if the deed says so. Handing over the vehicle, the keys and the documents is a disposition of your property, not routine management, so it belongs in the wording as its own act. Name the carrier if you already know who it is, or authorise handover to a carrier your agent appoints.
Does the deed have to name the destination country?
Nothing we can source makes it compulsory, so we will not say it is. Naming the destination is still worth doing, because it fixes what the authority is for and keeps the deed from reading as open-ended. The import rules of that country are set by its own authorities, and have to be checked with them.
Can my agent pass the job to someone else?
Only if the deed allows it. Say plainly whether a sub-agency may be granted, and to whom. Article 903 of Federal Decree-Law 25/2025 adds that when the principal agency is revoked, every sub-agency derived from it is revoked by law, so the chain falls with the original.
Who ratifies an export power of attorney?
A notary public. We draft, translate, check and attend the ratification with you. In Dubai notaries public sit under Dubai Courts. The federal schedule, Cabinet Resolution 19 of 2024, sets AED 100 per party for executing or notarising a general or special power of attorney and AED 50 per page for a translation in the instrument, and Dubai Courts publishes its own fees.
What happens to the authority once the vehicle has left?
It ends when the work is done. Article 897 of Federal Decree-Law 25/2025 extinguishes an agency on completion of the work entrusted to the agent, on expiry of the term written into it, or on the death or loss of capacity of either person. Put an end date in anyway, so nothing stays open by accident.
