Power of Attorney to Cancel a Visa in the UAE: What the Deed Must Say

A power of attorney to cancel a visa is a signed deed that names a person you trust to deal with the visa cancellation for you when you cannot attend yourself. Our lawyers and legal consultants draft and handle it in house, and we take it through ratification before a notary public.

Whether the authority accepts the deed is decided by the body that receives it. We cannot state any immigration rule here, so we draft the deed to name the act clearly and you confirm the visa steps with the authority concerned.

Power of attorney to cancel a visa: what it is for

You may be abroad, ill, or unable to take time off. The deed lets your agent act in your name for the cancellation only, if that is all you name.

The deed needs to say what the agent may do. Under Federal Decree-Law No. 25 of 2025, Article 871 says an agency written in general terms gives only acts of management. Article 870(1) says any act beyond management and preservation needs a special agency that names the act. So we name the visa cancellation in plain words instead of leaving it to a general deed.

Power of attorney to cancel a visa requirements

Before we draft, we need to know four things:

  1. Who you are, and who your agent will be.
  2. Which visa the deed is about, and which authority will receive the deed.
  3. Exactly what the agent may do, for example sign, submit and collect documents for the cancellation.
  4. Whether the deed will be used inside the UAE or sent abroad.

The notary public checks identity from an ID card, passport or other official State document. The deed is in Arabic. Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013 requires a foreign language document to have an Arabic translation by a certified translator, with both versions signed. We draft it in Arabic and English side by side, which is common practice.

Power of attorney to cancel a visa documents required

Bring these:

  • Your ID card or passport, as the identity document.
  • Your agent’s ID card or passport.
  • The details of the visa the deed is about, as shown on your own paperwork.
  • The name of the authority that will receive the deed.
  • If you are signing for a company, proof of your authority to sign.

We check every document before the appointment. For a full list of what to bring, see our power of attorney documents checklist.

  5. You give the ratified deed to your agent.

If the deed goes abroad, it is ratified here and attested by MOFAIC, and the receiving country decides what else it needs. See power of attorney attestation in Dubai for the attestation step.
