Power of Attorney to Sponsor a Family Visa: What the Deed Must Name

A power of attorney to sponsor a family visa lets a person you trust act for you on the paperwork when you cannot attend yourself. Our lawyers and legal consultants draft, translate and handle your power of attorney in house, and we take it through ratification before a notary public.

The catch most people miss is that a vague deed gets turned away. The deed must name the exact acts your agent may do. Acceptance is decided by the body that receives the document.

What a Power of Attorney to Sponsor a Family Visa Is For

You sign the deed. It names your agent and the acts the agent may do for you. It is useful when you are abroad, ill or busy and your family’s visa paperwork cannot wait for you.

It is a different document from a general visa deed. Our page on a power of attorney for visa application covers visa and residency matters in general. The family case is narrower: your agent handles paperwork for your relatives.

We state no immigration rule here. The authority that receives your deed tells you what it needs from you and your family.

General or Special: Which Power of Attorney You Need

Under Federal Decree-Law No. 25 of 2025, an agency may be general, special, conditional or deferred to a future time (Article 869). An agency written in general terms gives the agent only acts of management (Article 871(1)). Any other act needs a special agency that names the act (Article 870(1)). You can read the law on the UAE Legislation portal.

So we draft this deed as a special power of attorney. It names each act your agent may do, instead of saying “everything”. Our guide to a special power of attorney in Dubai explains the acts that need one.

Power of Attorney to Sponsor a Family Visa Requirements

  • You must be able to attend, in person or through an official remote channel, and sign before the notary public.
  • Your agent must be named clearly, with the same name as on their ID.
  • The deed must name each act, not only a general power.
  • Each person named in the deed must be identified correctly.
  • The deed must be in Arabic. A foreign language document needs an Arabic translation by a certified translator, with both versions signed.

We draft it in Arabic and English, and we take care of the legal translation.

Power of Attorney to Sponsor a Family Visa Documents Required

Bring original documents. The notary public checks your identity from an ID card, passport or other official State document.

  • Your Emirates ID or passport.
  • The names and details of each family member the deed concerns.
  • The name of the authority that will receive the deed.

From your agent:

  • Your agent’s passport or Emirates ID details, so we can write the name correctly.

If a company signs, tell us. We list what a company needs when we hear the facts. Read our power of attorney documents checklist for the full list.

Online ratification runs through the official channels. The Ministry of Justice runs the E-Notary System, and Dubai Courts checks the parties by virtual or personal attendance. We are not those systems. We tell you whether your deed can go that way.

Power of Attorney to Sponsor a Family Visa Fees

Federal and Dubai figures are different. Our charge is quoted on enquiry, before any work starts, and is shown apart from the government fees.

Federal fee with a private notary on the federal schedule (up to 30% more)AED 130 per partySame resolution
Federal fee: notarising a translation in the instrumentAED 50 per pageSame resolution

These are federal figures, not Dubai Courts fees. Dubai notary work is governed by Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013 and Dubai Courts publishes its own fees. The amount is confirmed with the office that ratifies the document.

What Gets a Deed Rejected

  • A blank field left for later.
  • A name that differs from the ID.
  • Wording like “all visa matters” with no named act.
  • Signing before the appointment.
  • A foreign document without its attestation chain.

Our drafting practice is to name each act. The body that receives the deed decides what it accepts.

Using the Deed From or For Abroad

A deed going abroad is ratified here and attested by MOFAIC. The receiving country decides what else it needs. The UAE is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so documents from abroad are attested in the issuing country first, then by MOFAIC in the UAE.

Our page on MOFA attestation in the UAE shows the steps.

Ending the Deed

There is no general legal validity period for a power of attorney. The term is whatever the deed says. An agency ends when the work is done, when its term expires, or on the death or loss of capacity of you or your agent (Article 897). You can revoke it at any time, though revoking at an inappropriate time can mean compensating the agent (Article 899). See how to cancel a power of attorney in Dubai.
