General or special power of attorney
The law on agency is in Federal Decree-Law No. 25 of 2025, Articles 866 to 903. Under Article 869 an agency may be general, special, conditional or set for a future time.
- A general agency written in general terms gives only acts of management (Article 871).
- Acts such as sale, mortgage, settlement, donation or pleading before a court need a special agency that names the act (Article 870).

Company documents and MOA wording
A company power of attorney is usually read together with company papers such as the MOA. Bring them, so the signatory and the powers can be checked against them. A general or commercial power of attorney is a commercial document on the MOFAIC list, which matters if it will be used outside the UAE.

Who must attend and what to bring
The notary public checks identity from an ID card, passport or other official State document (Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022, Article 7). Personal appearance is the default, and Article 18 allows the notary to use IT tools instead. Dubai Courts checks the parties by virtual or personal attendance. Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022, Article 2, leaves out local judicial authorities, and Dubai is one of them under Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013. So these are not the Dubai Courts fees. The Dubai Courts amount is confirmed with the office that ratifies your document.
How long do POA typing services in Dubai take?
There is no fixed time, and we make no promise about speed. A power of attorney needs a correct draft, an ID check and ratification, and we make no promise about speed. We tell you what each step needs, so nothing is sent back for a mistake. Acceptance is decided by the body that receives the document.
What gets a power of attorney rejected
- Blank fields or a name that differs from the ID.
- Powers that are too general for the act, such as selling property.
- Signing before the appointment.
- A foreign document without its attestation chain.
- No Arabic translation by a certified translator for a foreign-language document (Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013, Article 27).
Banks, the RTA and the Dubai Land Department may have their own wording standards. We draft to our practice, and the receiving body decides. Cancelling a power of attorney
There is no general validity period: the term is whatever the document says. An agency also ends when the work is done, or on the death or loss of capacity of the principal or agent (Article 897). To end it early, see our page on the power of attorney cancellation notice.
